ACES Academies Trust

HEAD OF SCHOOL (required from September 2019)

ISR L29-L36

Hinchingbrooke School is part of the ACES Academies Trust.  The Head of School reports to the CEO and is responsible for all aspects of the school’s operation and the standards achieved.

The Head of School is responsible for the effective overall management of the school, for ensuring the provision of academic leadership and strategic vision and for the quality of education, both in terms of provision and outcomes. The Head of School is expected to lead the school in line with the national standards for headship.

The Head of School will lead the senior team and distribute leadership responsibilities to ensure that all key aspects are covered. The senior team consists of two Vice Principals and seven Assistant Principals, their current responsibilities being detailed in a separate document. The CEO and Director of Finance and HR are both central office appointments and are available to assist in any aspect of the leadership and management of the school.

The Head of School is the lead professional and should conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times and be a good role model for all staff. You should lead by example with integrity, creativity, resilience, and clarity. You should demonstrate optimistic personal behaviour, positive relationships and attitudes towards students and staff, and towards parents, governors and members of the local community.

You should draw on your own scholarship, expertise and skills, along with that of others, to communicate a compelling vision and sustain a current understanding of educational excellence, working with political and financial astuteness, within a clear set of principles, to translate local and national policy into the context of the school.

Hinchingbrooke School is academically focused, offering a very pleasant working environment, once described by the Daily Telegraph as ‘the most beautiful state Secondary School in the country’. Being close to the railway station, it is a larger than average comprehensive (11-18) school with academy status and a number of unique features, including a full scale theatre and a new £2.5m Sports hall incorporating a full gym. The school formed a multi-academy trust called ACES with one of its feeder primary from January 2018.

The school has a well established reputation for being aspirational and high achieving, with good and improving academic ratings.  The science department is large and successful; the creative and performing arts are very strong; the school has a specialism in Sport, being the local Sports hub for the area and the Sixth Form occupy a grade 1 listed building. Our students are proud of their school, exercise their leadership through a number of student councils and leadership schemes and the school campus and historic house offer an exceptionally pleasant working environment which helps to ‘inspire excellence, and fulfil potential’. The school places a great emphasis on bespoke CPD programmes, has strong links with other networks, including membership of the Discovery Teaching School Alliance, a plethora of extra-curricular and cross-curricular working opportunities and is in partnership with a growing number of external partnerships.
